CFC Foster Grandparent Receives “Person of Mission” Award
Joan Lowery at the Foster Grandparent Office
CFC Foster Grandparent Joan Lowery was presented with the “Person of Mission” award from Saint Anne’s Hospital. Joan was assigned to Saint Anne’s as a volunteer in the gift shop in September of 2003. In a short period of time Joan discovered she required more interaction with the people/patients and was transferred to the Emergency Departments Triage and that’s where she has been ever since.
Joan was nominated for “Always going above and beyond with the patients. Joan has been known to stay far beyond her shift to help out when Triage is busy and will sometimes stay late just to sit with a patient that she feels could use a little more attention until they are called to be seen.”
According to Diane Palmer, Director of Volunteer Services, “She is highly regarded by all of the nurses that she works with, they all love Joanie!” Diane continues, “Joan is one of the most compassionate people I have met. She treats every person visiting the Emergency Department with respect and, when it is appropriate, a little bit of humor to make them feel at ease. Saint Anne’s Hospital is fortunate to have such a person at the front-line. I am proud to say she is one of my volunteers, but more importantly I am happiest to call her my friend.”
The Foster Grandparent Program serves children throughout Fall River and Taunton who have special needs and at the same time provides low income, elderly with the opportunity to work with these children and improve their income.
