FALL RIVER, MA – Citizens for Citizens, Inc. (CFC), the Community Action Agency committed to supporting vulnerable individuals and families across Southcoast Massachusetts, is proud to celebrate its 60th anniversary of service. Since its founding in 1965, the agency has been a vital resource for residents in the Greater Fall River and Greater Taunton areas, working tirelessly to alleviate economic hardships and create pathways to economic opportunity for thousands of community members.
Over the past six decades, CFC has provided essential services, including the popular Fuel Assistance (HEAP) and Head Start programs along with other programs that increase access to food, healthcare, housing, education, and more. The agency’s programs have empowered local residents to overcome financial barriers and achieve greater self-sufficiency, making a lasting impact on the fabric of Southcoast Massachusetts.
“We are incredibly proud to reach this milestone,” said Liz Berube, Executive Director. “This anniversary is not just a celebration of our past, but a reminder of the ongoing need for our work. The dedication of our staff, volunteers, and community partners, alongside the resilience of the individuals and families we serve, has been the foundation of our success. We’re grateful for the opportunity to continue making a difference.”
To commemorate this important anniversary, CFC has unveiled a new 60th logo and updated their mission statement: “The mission of CFC is to improve the economic security of vulnerable populations across Southcoast MA through comprehensive social services, community collaboration, and state-wide advocacy.” The agency is also planning a host of events throughout the year, including a community celebration, a fundraising campaign, and opportunities to celebrate their staff and engage with local leaders and community members.
“To honor the vision of the Kennedy and Johnson Administrations who saw this work as a legacy of helping and hope, we are committed to continuing our mission for another 60 years and beyond.” said Deputy Director Garth Patterson. “As we reflect on our achievements, we remain focused on what lies ahead. There is still much to be done, but with the continued support of our donors, volunteers, and community partners, we know we can build an even stronger community for future generations.”
